Coaches in Perth and the South-West Region have the opportunity to learn and develop their craft in a busy week of coach development and education events starting Friday, October 27.
As part of Basketball Western Australia’s ongoing commitment to the development of coaches at all levels, there are four major clinics and courses in the space of six days, featuring guest presenters and covering a wide range of topics and areas of the game.
The Coach Education Presenters’ course on Friday, October 27 tips-off a busy week of development and provides coaches from around the state with the opportunity to gain training and accreditation to provide coaching courses. The course is being facilitated by BWA Coach Development and Pathways Manager David Naylor and will include presentations from Basketball Australia Head of High Performance Coach Development Peter Lonergan.
Coaches from throughout the state will attend the Association Coach course to be held at the Bendat Basketball Centre on Saturday, October 28 and 29.
The Association Coach course was formerly called the Level 2 and provides aspiring representative and SBL coaches with the opportunity to learn the latest in coaching techniques, strength and conditioning, technology and innovation in coaching. The course will include a wide range of expert presenters.
Coaches in the South-West area will have an opportunity to get some development when BWA hosts a clinic focusing on developing skill through 1 v 1, 2 v 2 and 3 v 3 drills. Basketball Australia’s Peter Lonergan will be the guest presenter for the clinic, which is open to coaches of any level. To register or for more information, click here.
Rounding out a busy time of coach education and development is the Performance Coach Workshop to be held at HBF Arena on Thursday, November 2. The focus for this clinic is Talent Identification Systems and Strategies and interested coaches can register by contacting David Naylor at BWA.
In announcing the busy week of coach development, BWA Coach Development and Pathways Manager David Naylor said it was a fantastic opportunity for coaches to learn and share information.
“Basketball WA is committed to providing education, development and training for our coaches and to have these events in the space of a week is a terrific opportunity,” he said.
“It is great to have the chance to provide training for our coach educators, as well as have the opportunity to upskill coaches with the Association Coach course and the two clinics.”
Basketball Australia Head of High Performance Coach Development Peter Lonergan said he was looking forward to visiting the west and working with BWA staff for the week.
“BWA has some terrific program initiatives in place for coaches in the west and it will be great to spend some time-sharing information with coaches in Perth and in the South-West,” he said.
Whilst in Perth, Lonergan will also attend Camp 1 of the U18 State Performance Program (SPP) on November 4 and 5 at the Bendat Basketball Centre to work with the best Metro and Country athletes in the State.
