EXPRESSION of Interest Sapphires & Crocs Coaches

Basketball Australia is calling for Expressions of Interest for the coaching staff positions for the Australian teams for the 2023 FIBA Asia Under 16 Cup and pursuant of qualification, the 2024 FIBA Under 17 World Cup.

Interested and suitably qualified coaches are invited to submit an Expression of Interest for the following positions –

  • Head Coach Under 16/17 Girls
  • Head Coach Under 16/17 Boys
  • Assistant Coach Under 16/17 Girls
  • Assistant Coach Under 16/17 Boys

If coaches are wishing to express interest for more than one role, they will need to submit individual EOI’s for each role.

Desired Experience and skill set (all roles) –

  • Demonstrated experience coaching elite basketball
  • Coaching experience at Australian Junior Championships
  • Experience in coaching at the NBL/WNBL or NBL1 is desirable, but not essential
  • Actively coaching in the BA NPP or State Performance Programs
  • Experience in editing/review skills and functional knowledge of Hudl/Sportscode platforms
  • Understanding of the Basketball Australia style of play philosophy

For Head Coach candidates –

  • Experience in coaching (head or assistant) at the international youth level
  • BA Performance Coach accreditation
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a program

The commitment for successful applicants in 2023 will include –

  • Two 4-day preparation and selection camps across May and July (dates to be confirmed once tournament venues and dates have been confirmed)
  • Attendance for the 2023 FIBA Asia Under 16 Cup, including travel to and from the event on the gazetted days with the team (dates to be advised, indicatively August/September)
  • Completion of a written report within two weeks of return from the event
  • Applicants MUST have a current Australian passport, with at least 6 months validity from date of travel

Indicative 2024 commitments –

  • Attendance at 2024 Australian Under 18 Championships (April)
  • Two 4-day preparation and selection camps across May – June
  • Attendance for the 204 FIBA Under 17 World Cup, inclusive of travel days, pre-tournament friendly games and the event (events likely July 2024)

Other information –

All successful candidates will be required to have a current Working with Children clearance or equivalent and hold a minimum Basketball Australia Association Coach level accreditation.

These are voluntary roles, with a small stipend for successful candidates. Basketball Australia will cover all travel, accommodation and meals at camps, events and the tournaments.

Applicants may be provide some more detailed information prior to advancing to interview once reviewed by the review panel.

Indicatively, interviews will be conducted mid-January 2023 for those short listed by the review panel. No late expressions of interest will be accepted.
