Opals Coach to Lead Clinic in Canberra

Australian Chemist Warehouse Opals head coach and former WNBA Coach of the Year Sandy Brondello will present a coach development clinic in Canberra on Sunday, December 15. The legendary Opal will present on “Building Your Team Defence”.

The clinic is presented by Basketball Australia and Basketball ACT and will be held at 1pm at the BA Centre of Excellence on the campus of the Australian Institute of Sport. The session is open to any representative coach and is free as part of Basketball Australia’s ongoing commitment to coach development.

Regarded as one of Australia’s finest ever players, Brondello has made a seamless transition to coaching, winning a WNBA title and being awarded the WNBA Coach of the Year in 2013.

Appointed to the Opals coaching role in 2017, she led the team to silver at the 2018 FIBA World Championships and will be at the helm as the team looks to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics at the qualifiers in February.

Brondello will present on key areas for teaching and improving team defence at the clinic and this is an opportunity for coaches to learn from one of the great minds in international coaching.

The Phoenix Mercury mentor is renowned as a defensive coach and will share some of the concepts adopted by the Opals in their silver-medal run at the 2018 World Championships. Please see below a video link to a clinic Coach Brondello did in Adelaide in 2018.
