Deanne Butler

Australian Gems -

Home Association: Diamond Valley Eagles

Started coaching (when and how):

2011. I retired from a 16 year career as a player, and was keen to have some time away from basketball. However 6 months later I was asked to jump on board the Senior Championship Women’s Team at Bulleen so decided to try a career at coaching.

Why do you coach?

I love basketball. I love the opportunity of working with different types of athletes and contributing to their development in some way. I enjoy the pressure and challenges that coaching brings, and seeing individuals succeed when it’s due to their own hard work. It’s nice to have transitioned from a player and having the chance to now draw on past experiences and the good and bad traits of past coaches.

Advice to coaches seeking to progress:

Keep setting small goals and exposing yourself to a variety of mentors. Always be honest with your own self-evaluation.
