Internationally renowned coach education expert Professor Donna O’Connor will be one of the keynote presenters and facilitators at the 5th annual Basketball Australia Coaches Conference May 4 and 5.
Regarded as one of the preeminent experts in the area of coach education across a number of sports, Professor O’Connor is currently the Associate Professor of Coach Education and PDHPE Coordinator at Sydney University and has worked across elite sporting codes at both the professional and international level.
Professor O’Connor has strong links to basketball, having worked in a strength and conditioning and athlete performance role with the Australian Opals last decade and playing a key role as the team claimed FIBA World Championship gold in Brazil in 2006 and Olympic silver in Beijing.
She has also assisted numerous basketball coaches improve their knowledge through the Masters in Coaching course at Sydney University and has mentored a number of elite basketball coaches over the last 15 years.
A previous presenter at the Coaches Conference, Professor O’Connor will present on different coaching styles and how coaches can best impact the learning environment for their players.
Another internationally renowned leader in coach development, FIBA World Association of Basketball Coach President Patrick Hunt will return as a keynote presenter. Considered a doyen of coaching in Australia, Hunt heads up the WABC and is also the Chairman of the FIBA Technical Committee.
A mainstay of the BA Coaches Conference, Coach Hunt has presented numerous keynotes in previous events and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the global game. He also served as Head Coach of the Australian Institute of Sport program for many years, before heading up the internationally regarded Basketball Australia National Intensive Training Program
These two vastly experience presenters add to the list of high level presenters, with former Australian Boomers head coach and NBL coaching legend Brian Goorjian joining Gems silver medal mentor Dee Butler and reigning NBL Coach of the Year Mike Kelly among the confirmed presenters for the Conference.
