Coaches from Perth, Geraldton and Darwin will have the opportunity to learn from one of the bright minds of Australian basketball next month.
Respected Chicago Bulls assistant coach Damian Cotter will conduct clinics in the three cities in June, along with some professional development sessions for state and territory high performance staff.
A former Australian Opals assistant coach and national under 19 head coach, Cotter has been with the Bulls for three years.
Highly regarded for his player development prowess, the Bulls assistant will spend a couple of days in each centre working with coaches of all levels.
The clinics and associated PD activities are supported by Basketball Australia, Basketball WA, the Mid West Academy of Sport, Basketball NT and Hoops4Health in a collaborative approach to assist coaches.
Following the success of the recent National Coaches Conference, Cotter’s visit is designed to further provide high level coach development to coaches in WA and the Northern Territory.
In announcing the clinics, Basketball Australia Director of High Performance Coach Development Peter Lonergan said it would be a busy schedule for the former Emus coach.
“Thanks to our partners at BWA, MWAS, BNT and Hoops4Health, Damian will present three clinics, four professional development meetings and other community events over the 6 days,” he said.
“We expect more than 300 coaches to benefit from the visit across all levels of the sport and we are fortunate to have Damian share his knowledge.
Coach Cotter said he was looking forward to the opportunity to working with coaches in the two states after a busy NBA 2022/23 schedule.
“It is always great to get back to Australia and I’m excited about spending time with the coaches in Perth, Geraldton and Darwin,” he said.
“These are great basketball regions and it’s terrific to work with the various stakeholders to help deliver some development for the hardworking young coaches.”
Basketball Australia would like to thank and acknowledge Basketball Northern Territory, Basketball Western Australia, the Mid West Academy of Sport and Hoops4Health for their support of these valuable coach development events.
