Australian coaching icon Brian Goorjian headlines an impressive list of the presenters for the 5th annual Basketball Australia Coaches Conference to be held at the BA Centre of Excellence in Canberra May 4 and 5.

The 6-time National Basketball League Coach of the Year and six time championship mentor will present two on-court clinics at the Conference, sharing a wealth of knowledge gained over a stellar 35-year coaching career.

Goorjian coached the Boomers at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games as well as coaching 619 NBL games with an imposing 72% winning record.

Currently coaching in China, the legend of Australian coaching has been a constant supporter of coach development in Australia over 30 years, presenting numerous clinics around Australia and mentoring countless young coaches.

The Basketball Australia Coaches Conference is held each year and provides coaches of all levels of the sport with an opportunity to learn, grow, network and develop their craft. The Conference includes both on-court sessions and smaller “break-out” group lectures and workshops.

Joining Goorjian as the first of the presenters to be announced is Australian Under 19 Women’s coach Dee Butler, who last year led the Gems to a silver medal at the FIBA World Under 19 Championships in Thailand.

The former WNBL guard and life member guided the Gems to their best result in some 20 years and will share some observations from the event and systems the team used in their run to a heart-breaking overtime loss to USA in the gold medal game.

In a further coup for coaches attending the Conference, Cairns Taipans mentor and 2019/2020 NBL Coach of the Year Mike Kelly will be a guest presenter.

A former NBL Defensive Player of Year and grand final MVP, Kelly has led a resurgent Taipans outfit to the play-offs and earned the COTY award in the process.

Early bird registrations for the Conference will open later this week. The Early Bird registration will be $225, which includes the Conference, a special conference coaches folder and a social function on the Monday evening.
