Clinic Opportunity for Top End Coaches

Coaches from Darwin and the Top End will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge with a free clinic being held in conjunction with the Australian Under 16 Championships in July.

As part of a collaboration by Basketball NT, Darwin Basketball Association and Basketball Australia, BA Centre of Excellence assistant coaches Matt Paton and Michael Cassidy will present a clinic 7pm – 8.30m on Thursday, July 11 at DBA Court One.

Currently an assistant coach with the BA Centre of Excellence Women’s program, Matt Paton also recently guided the Australian women’s team to a gold medal at the FIBA Asia 3×3 Cup in China. He will present on 3×3 fundamentals and decision making and how coaches can adapt these concepts into their practice sessions.

With 3×3 an ever growing space, this clinic will provide important drills and breakdowns for coaches to help players develop in both the 3×3 and 5v5 games.

Michael Cassidy is the assistant coach of the BA COE Men and also led the Australian team to a silver medal at the prestigious 2018 Albert Schweitzer Tournament in Germany. He will present on building blocks for man to man defence. The clinic will incorporate key teaching points and drills for coaches, as well as touch on the latest defensive techniques from the international game.

This free clinic will include a wide variety of drills, concepts and teaching points that can be used by coaches of all levels of experience and notes will be available for the coaches in attendance. Thanks to Darwin Basketball Association and Basketball Northern Territory for their work in putting this clinic together and providing a valuable development opportunity for coaches.

Coaches attending the Australian Under 16 Championships in any capacity are also welcome to attend the clinic, which will be held in air conditioned comfort at Darwin Basketball Association.
