Reflections From a Big Year of Coach Development

Posted on Dec 19 2021

The spirit of sharing has always been a feature of Australian basketball coaching and despite the challenges of another Covid impacted year, 2021 has again been a busy and positive year of coach development nationally.

As the year draws to an end, we are going to take some time to reflect and revisit some of the excellent clinics and sharing of information from coaches at all levels of the sport. Our State and Territory basketball associations have been extremely active with clinics and other coach development opportunities, as have our National team coaches and staff from BA Centre of Excellence.

Between the national body and our member state/territory associations, there have been more than 30 free coaches clinics, an amazing 184 courses and more than 60 on-line webinars.

Coaches from the National Basketball League and Women’s National Basketball League are always so generous with their time, conducting clinics in the pre-season and always available to support coaches at all levels of the sport. The recent NBL Blitz featured clinics from a host of head and assistant coaches.

The WNBL coaches also play a key role in presenting clinics and providing opportunities for coaches, including finding time at National camps to value add learning for youth coaches.

Our Basketball Centre of Excellence coaches have also played a key role in coach development, presenting clinics at national events and sharing a series of drills and concepts from the COE daily training environment.

Australian coaches from all over the globe have been more than generous with their time, from leading college coaches such as Nate Tomlinson sharing thought on guard play or some of our BA Master Coaches sharing their advice for young coaches.

The State and Territory associations have been highly active in the clinic and coach development space, providing free clinics presented by leading coaches and sharing nationally through on-line platforms.

Basketball Australia would like to thank and acknowledge all the coaches from around the country who gave up their time to support coach development and congratulates the national coaching network for their ongoing desire to learn and grow. The spirit of sharing is a key aspect of Australian coaching.

Merry Christmas from Basketball Australia to all our coaches.
