Duggan Added to Coaches Conference Presenters

Posted on Mar 05 2023

Timmy Duggan has long promoted the link between health and basketball and he will outline his philosophy and approach when he presents on “How Does Hoops Heal – Leading and Mentoring Through a First Nations Lens” at the 2023 Basketball Australia National Coaches Conference in May.

A former NBL player, Duggan is a community leader and has been at the forefront of indigenous health awareness through his “Hoops for Health” program for more than 20 years. Recently awarded an Order of Australia Medal, the former Gold Coast Cairns NBL point guard has used basketball as a vehicle for change across three decades.

He will be one of the keynote presenters at the National Coaches Conference and will share the journey of his program and the work currently being done in remote indigenous communities across northern Australia.

This will be second time in five years Duggan has presented a keynote at the National Coaches Conference after talking about “Cultural Safety in Basketball” at the 2018 event.

Basketball Australia has now announced Australian coaching icon Brian Goorjian and sports leadership expert Elizabeth Masen as keynote presenters for the conference, which will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport May 1 and 2. Registrations open Monday, March 6
